Analysis of Cracks in Brake Hub

The cracking of the brake hub not only affects the strength of the brake hub, but also affects the performance of the equipment, reduces operating parameters, affects brake performance, reduces safety indicators, and directly threatens the safety of equipment and personnel. Its harm is significant. Analyzing and identifying the causes of brake hub cracking is of great significance for safety production.

Due to the harsh working conditions and poor working conditions of the brake hub, it can withstand high temperature loads for a long time. In addition, due to the friction between the brake hub and the friction plate during operation, heat is generated. In addition, the brake hub is a high-speed rotating equipment, so it is generally designed with a protective cover, which is more unfavorable for the heat dissipation of the brake hub. During the braking process, the brake hub often overheats and turns red due to dry friction and high friction. At this time, workers often pour tap water on the brake hub to reduce its temperature. The continuous strong friction of the brake hub generates heat, causing its surface temperature to increase. When the surface color is cherry red, the local temperature of the surface can reach over 800C, which can cause changes in the organizational structure and plastic deformation.

Reducing the temperature of the brake hub with tap water has already played a quenching role, increasing the local hardness, internal stress, and cold brittleness of the surface layer. At the same time, due to the repeated action of tangential force, cracks locally initiate at the blocky carbides and inclusions in the surface layer. With the action of irregular alternating impact force, the crack propagation at this location is accelerated.

Improper adjustment is one of the important reasons for cracks in the brake hub. The gap between the brake hub and the friction plate is large, which utilizes heat dissipation to make the brake decisive and powerful. However, due to the limitations of operating space, this is the case with the drilling rig, and the operating machine should also vary from person to person. The gap between the brake hub and the friction plate is too small to utilize heat dissipation. Braking is not rapid and generates a large amount of heat.
